Put some toilet paper and wipes out next to the potty (the latter is for you to use should they have an accident).

Have your chosen cleaning products ready and close at hand.

Make sure the mattress protector is on the bed and, if you are using disposable bed mats, put these on the bed too.

Make sure the night-light is plugged in before bedtime and that the potty is visible.

Make up the bed with several sheets. If (or, more accurately, when) your child has an accident, the last thing you want is to be searching for clean bedding and changing the bed in the middle of the night. Using at least two or three bottom sheets, one fitted over the other with a disposable bed mat in between, means that you can just whip off the wet layer quickly in the night, leaving the bed dry and the new sheet ready to go. This may seem like a lot of work, but it is work you will thank yourself for at three in the morning.
